The Griddler's Numerous Makes use of
Make contact with GrillUse the Griddler as a speak to grill to cook burgers, boneless pieces of meat and thin cuts of meat and vegetables. The speak to grill function works best when you want to cook some thing in a brief amount of time or when you are searching for a healthy process of grilling. When cooked on the contact grill, food will cook rapidly because you are grilling each sides of the food at the exact same time. The ribs on the grill side of the plates, combined with the grease spout at the rear of the plate, let the grease to drip from the meat and drain off the plates. When the Griddler is employed as a get in touch with grill, the grill side of plates is proposed. Rest the cover evenly on best of the food till it has reached the desired cooked temperature. The Griddler was designed with a special manage and hinge that let the cover to adjust to the thickness of the food. You can conveniently grill something from a thinly sliced potato to a thick sirloin steak with even results. When cooking alot more than a single food item in the get in touch with grill, it is crucial that the thickness of food items is constant so the cover will close evenly on the food.
Panini PressUse the Griddler as a panini press to grill sandwiches, breads, and quesadillas. The sandwich is pressed between two grill or griddle plates to toast the bread and warm the sandwich. We advocate using fresh-baked bread to generate the preferred tasting panini. When the Griddler is utilised as a panini press, the grill side of the plates is advised. We recommend the grill side of the plates because standard style panini sandwiches have grill marks on the bread. Still, based upon the kind of sandwich you are preparing, you might wish to use the griddle side of the plates or any mixture of the two. The Griddler functions as a panini press in the same manner that it functions as a make contact with grill. The Griddler was created with a exclusive deal with and hinge that allow the cover to adjust to the thickness of the sandwich you are preparing, and to rest there evenly. Light pressure can be applied to the manage to press and heat the sandwich to your liking.
Complete GrillUse the Griddler as a full grill to cook burgers, steak, poultry (we do not advise cooking bone-in chicken, since it does not cook evenly on a full grill), fish, and vegetables. Full grill refers to applying the Griddler with the cover lying flat, developing a double, flat cooking surface. In this position, the foods you are grilling will have to be turned over for cooking. When the Griddler is utilised as a complete grill, the grill side of the plates must be put to use. Cooking on the complete grill is the most versatile technique of utilizing the Griddler. With the full grill, you have double the surface area (200 square inches) for grilling. You have the option of cooking distinctive forms of foods on separate plates without having combining their flavors, or cooking significant amounts of the similar kind of food. The complete grill also accommodates numerous cuts of meats with varying thickness, allowing you to cook each piece to your liking.
Full GriddleUse the Griddle as a complete griddle to cook pancakes, eggs, French toast, hash browns, and breakfast meats. When you use the Griddler as a complete griddle, open the cover so it lies flat, developing a double, flat cooking surface. In this position, the foods you are preparing will have to be turned over for cooking. When utilizing this cooking function, the griddle side of the plates will need to be utilized. Cooking on the complete griddle is a splendid way to prepare breakfast for two or for a significant loved ones. The huge surface area permits you to cook a wide variety of distinct foods at the exact same time, or big amounts of your favored food.
Half Grill/Half GriddleUse the Griddler as a half grill/half griddle in order to develop full meals like bacon and eggs or steak and potatoes at the identical time. When utilizing the Griddler as a half grill/half griddle, merely spot the unit in the flat position and insert a single plate with the grill side facing up and one other plate with the griddle side facing up. This cooking alternative makes it possible for you to use either the grill/panini temperature or the griddle temperature selector.
To Insert Cooking Plates
Adjust the Griddler to the flat position with the controls straight in front of you. Insert one plate at a time. Each and every plate is developed to fit in either the upper housing or the lower housing of the Griddler. If you are facing the Griddler, the drip spout should certainly be at the rear of the plate. Find the metal brackets at the center of the housing. Tilt the back end of the plate and line up the cutouts at the back of the plate with metal brackets. Slide the plate underneath the brackets and push down the front finish of the plate. It will snap into location. Turn the Griddler around and insert the second plate on either its grill or griddle side into the upper housing as you did with the initial plate.

Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler
Customer Evaluations
I purchased a G4 Griddler from Amazon in 2005, and put to use it a couple of occasions a week (at least) until it had to be put out to pasture in 2010 due to failure of the non-stick coating on the plates. (The coating started to bubble and peel, and no a single wants that in their food...) I loved it. (See my evaluation of the Cuisinart GR-four Griddler Stainless-Steel four-in-1 Grill/Griddle and Panini Press) It was nonetheless operating amazing, but replacement plates were not out there.
I was elated when provided the opportunity to evaluation its smarter younger brother, the GR-4NAM Griddler. I could hardly wait for it to get right here and run it through its paces.
At very first glance, the GR-4NAM looks practically identical to the G4. But, closer inspection reveals that it has been totally redesigned, and for the improved.
Improvement: The grease catcher employed to be a small cup that had to be set beneath a spout on the side of the bottom plate. If it was positioned incorrectly, (or forgotten about), greased dripped out on the counter. The grease catcher is now integrated into the Griddler as a drawer-like device that can be pulled out to clean, and then put back in place for the next use.
Improvement: The original G4 had two sets of plates - one particular flat set, a single ridged set (for paninis). There is now one particular reversible set of plates (ridged on a single side, flat on the other), and subsequently no have to have to discover a storage spot for the plates not in use. The new plates have a fine substantial weight. I don't have the old ones here for comparison, but the excellent of the plates definitely was not cheapened.
Improvement: It used to be a little tricky to put the plates in place and to get rid of them. There was also a distinction among the leading plate and the bottom, so you had to be cautious not to try to put them in the wrong way. The plates now have an identical shape, so they are interchangeable, and the release buttons activate a spring-loaded mechanism that pops the plate loose for very easy removal.
Now, to see how it cooks: The Griddler takes about as lengthy to warm up as a very good-superior waffle iron. Just when you begin to get impatient with it, it's prepared.
The initial thing that I cooked was a no-no in the eyes of Cuisinart - a bone-in, skin-on leg and thigh chicken quarter. Too thick, they say. HA! says I, mainly because I am a bit of an anarchist. I marinated the chicken in olive oil and rosemary, heated the Griddler to Medium. I cooked it on the panini plates given that I adore those tiny fake barbeque stripes across my food. It worked just fine. (I must have taken a image, it came out searching breathtaking. But I was hungry.)
Word of warning: Do not cook thick or fatty meat on High - you will get grease spatters all over the location. Medium functions just fine in such instances.
I found from my old Griddler that when cooking meat it's top to turn off the heat prior to it really is performed, and let it finish cooking with the residual heat in the plates. That way the meat does not get overdone.
For clean-up, I let the plates cool down, and then put a wet paper towel across the bottom plate and close the lid and let it sit for a though. The dampness softens something that is stuck to the plates, and then it can be readily washed off with a sudsy sponge or dish wand.
Now for lunch, I created myself a sandwich with sliced sourdough bread, cooked sliced chicken breast, fresh grated parmesan cheese and dried basil. I followed the panini directions in the tiny cookbook that comes with the Griddler. Nicely, I sort of followed the directions... Cuisinart recommends brushing the outside of the sandwich with olive oil. I choose to use melted butter on panini given that it tends to make the sandwich crisper.
I preheated the Griddler on High, placed the sandwich inside, and applied light pressure for about 30 seconds, and then let it cook. The directions say to cook panini for about four -five minutes, but my sandwich was ready to consume in two minutes. Possibly the butter tends to make the bread brown quicker than olive oil.
In any case, it was attractive - evenly browned, crunchy and delicious, and I did take a image (see product pictures).
How durable will the GR-4NAM be? Fine question. From everything that I can see so far, Cuisinart has only created the Griddler much better. But time is the actual test of good quality. I will report back from time to time relating to durability.
Perfect now, I'd say this looks like an great decide to buy.
UPDATE, January 2011:
The Griddler is still in excellent shape. Granted, I am not utilizing it as frequently as I did my original a single, but that's considering that there are fewer mouths to feed in my household now than there employed to be. I have no cautionary tales to add to the assessment. Hmmm... I think I'll go make a grilled cheese sandwich....
We have had this item for over 1 year. This product has a handful of of outstanding characteristics:
1. The interchangeable nonstick plates that are dishwasher secure.
two. The unit opens up to a huge griddle.
three. The cooking plates are dishwasher protected.
Then again, the nonstick surface has began peeling off of the plates even even though the plates have never ever been abused, and we have in no way used metal utensils on them.
Our greatest complaint is the thermostat. The unit will reach the desired temperature, and then turn off. The cooking plates will actually cool off so substantially that the food will cease cooking. The thermostat will then kick back on and take about three-5 minutes to get back up to temperature. It is rather annoying, and does not at all times create beneficial results with food.
There also is a huge temperature distinction between the two plates when the unit is opened as a large griddle. This causes items being cooked to finish at diverse occasions.
This could have been a excellent item, but Cuisinart seems to have gone "low-cost" in areas that are integral to the function of the griddle. I would not obtain this item once more.
